The field for the AHSAA State Softball Championship features 56 teams that will begin playing next week at Choccolocco Park in Oxford.

The state championship tournament has been reduced from four days of competition to five days, starting Tuesday. A double elimination tier for each of the seven classes will be contested over a two-day period, with the Championships all being contested at the Signature Stadium on the second day.

The stadium was built to NCAA softball standards with 205-foot fences on the left and right pitch lines, 210 feet in gaps, and 220 feet in neutral. The pitch is Tifway 419 Bermuda grass and the facility can accommodate over 800 spectators, has two batting cages, changing rooms for teams and umpires, canoes, a press room, concessions and washrooms.

In addition to the stadium, there are seven other softball fields, five configured in a pod and two more with baseball fields in a pod. Softball fields have 225 foot fences.

Admission is $ 10 per day.

All teams – lose twice and go home – in the winner bracket and in the elimination bracket play three games on the first day of competition in each class. This places the undefeated team from the winning group in the championship game, waiting for an opponent to pass the elimination level on day two.

Teams that lose in the first or second round of the winner’s pool will have to play four playoff games on day two to win the championship.

In previous seasons, winners played twice on day one and teams losing in round one or two might have to play five games on day two to win the title in some classes.

Teams qualified for this year’s championship tournament by qualifying from four regions: North in Florence, West in Tuscaloosa, East in Montgomery and South in Mobile.

The play for all classes in the State Championship tournament is the same. West qualifier n ° 1 plays north qualifier n ° 2, n ° 1 east plays north n ° 2, n ° 1 east plays south n ° 2, south n ° 1 plays n # 2 east and # 1 north play # 1 west. 2.
