A website that offers a nationwide recreational fishing trip booking platform has listed its 10 best winter fishing destinations of 2022 in the United States – and Morro Bay came in second.

FishingBooker said that “the stars of the Morro Bay fishing scene are ling cod and a variety of rockfish, so right off the bat you know the bottom fishery is on fire.”

Other top destinations include Kenai, Alaska (# 1), South Padre Island, Texas (# 3), Lincoln City, Oregon (# 4), Orange Beach & Gulf Shores, Alabama (# 5) , Bristol, Tenn. (No. 6), Elephant Butte Lake, NM (No. 7); Miami, Florida (# 8); Presque Isle Bay, Pa. (No. 9); and Bozeman, Mont. (No. 10).

The site rented Morro Bay for his fishing on foot, saying that “anglers can head to any of the local beaches or parks for surf fishing” as well as his private charters ready to go on a deep sea fishing adventure.

“Thanks to the rocky shore and deep waters close to land, the bite is something that has to be experienced to be believed,” FishingBooker wrote. “When you get tired of fishing, you can spend your days surfing, kayaking and whale watching. After a busy day on the water, you can take a stroll through the old town and enjoy the nautical charm of the town. ”

The site chooses locations “based on the quality of the catch and popularity with the angling community,” a representative told The Tribune.

“We also include places with great fishing that are off the beaten track and often overlooked,” said Karin Mayer, outreach and public relations specialist. “Morro Bay is so well placed because of the variety of fishing opportunities that are offered.”
